Young writers to ‘light up’ the night in spoken word contest (via South Coast Today)

Young people are invited to create an original piece of writing inspired by local women for a spoken word contest at the Whaling Museum.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, “Lighting the Way: Historic Women of the SouthCoast,” in partnership with the Bristol Community College Women’s Center, and the YWCA, is hosting the spoken word contest from 6 to 8 p.m. March 14 at the Whaling Museum. Entries are due by Feb. 26.

Young people age 12 to 25 are invited to choose one of the women profiled at http://www.historicwomensouthcoast.org as inspiration for an original piece of writing suitable for performance – a poem, song, or some combination.
