This Saturday the Brooklyn Museum and Cave Canem Foundation will host a Pop-up Poetry event as part of the Museum’s First Saturday lineup of events. Poets and Cave Canem Fellows Hafizah Geter, Cynthia Manick, and Nicholas Nichols will be reading.
Cave Canem Foundation works to promote “the artistic and professional growth of Black poets.” Geter is a Brooklyn-based poet born in Zaria, Nigeria. She is also a Cave Canem Fellow and has poems published in or forthcoming in The New Yorker, Tin House, Narrative Magazine, Gulf Coast, Boston Review, Los Angeles Review of Books, andWest Branch, among other publications. She is currently working on a full length poetry collection and a nonfiction collection, according to her website.
Manick is another Brooklyn-based poet and the author of Blue Hallelujahs (Black Lawrence Press, 2016). Her work has appeared in the Academy of American Poets Poem-A-Day Series, Bone Bouquet, Callaloo, Kweli Journal, Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB), Muzzle Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and other publications.
