Bookshop receives complaint about ‘rude and naughty poetry’ (via Coventry Telegraph)

Staff at a bookshop were surprised to get an anonymous letter complaining the poetry read out at fortnightly evening events is too rude.

The unsigned letter arrived at the Tree House Bookshop on Wednesday.

The letter posted to the shop in The Square, Kenilworth, says: “Please ask the owners to stop allowing rude and offensive naughty poetry and song to be performed in this shop.

“Several residences [sic] are not happy with the nature of these songs.”

The bookshop plays host to evening events once a fortnight when people read poetry they have written, tell stories and sing folk songs.

Because it’s a small bookshop the maximum capacity is 35.

There are also lectures on subjects such as Renaissance painting and book club meetings.
