An Atlanta eighth-grader’s slam poetry performance about the privileges he enjoys for being a “white boy” has become a viral sensation.
Royce Mann, 14, a socially conscious middle school student, recited an electrifying poem about the “unfair” benefits of growing up a white teen in an affluent Atlanta community.
“When I was born, I had a success story already written for me,” the teen’s poem, called “White Boy Privilege,” reads.
The boy goes on to address minorities and women, who he says were “born on the first rung” of the ladder.
