The British singer-songwriter P.J. Harvey and the photographer and filmmaker Seamus Murphy have collaborated on “The Hollow of the Hand,” a book of poetry and images, to be published by Bloomsbury in the fall of 2015. The book is Ms. Harvey’s first, but it is not her first collaboration with Mr. Murphy: in 2011, she commissioned him to produce video clips for all 12 songs on her album “Let England Shake” after seeing “A Darkness Visible: Afghanistan,” a film and book of haunting images he published in 2008.

After their earlier collaboration, Ms. Harvey and Mr. Murphy traveled to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington to collect material and inspiration for “The Hollow of the Hand.” In their travels, Ms. Harvey said, they followed their instincts.

“Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about,” Ms. Harvey said in a statement. “I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with.”
