CHARLOTTE, NC—March 25, 2024—The Poet’s List proudly celebrates its ten-year anniversary. Founded in 2014, the brand has grown to be a staple within the poetry community via its online news platform, a host of innovative releases and through social media. The Poet’s List is inviting its audience to join in on the celebration by submitting a birthday note or testimonial, HERE.

Since 2014, The Poet’s List has worked to bring visibility to contemporary poets through curated video and news content, and original full-length interviews. Featured poets have ranged from up-and-coming to extremely renowned, with global appeal; spanning the United States and U.K., to countries across Africa, India, and more.

Interviews

In addition to standalone features, the brand has also released several interview series, including 2022’s The Pegasus Poets. This iconic collection of conversations spotlighted awardees of the Poetry Foundation’s Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, and included: Nikki Giovanni, Juan Felipe Herrera and Haki Madhubuti. Additionally, The Poet’s List has interviewed seven of the ten poets nominated under the GRAMMY’s newest category: Best Spoken Word Poetry Album, including: Kevin Powell, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Queen Sheba, aja monet and more. In a recent interview with CanvasRebel, The Poet’s List’s founder, Alexzenia Davis, elaborated on the importance of poetry news for both burgeoning and accomplished poets:

“[Many poets] – despite the enormity of their influence – have never had an opportunity to tell their story,” says Davis, “When you interview a poet who has been active in the community for 20+ years, and you realize that they are beaming with joy because they are finally able to tell their story from top to bottom for the very first time… that deposit is immeasurable.”

Projects

The Poet’s List is also the proud creator of WordPit, a poetry prompt card game which features over 1800 possible combinations, with options for solo and group play. Released in 2021, the game was developed for multiple settings, including: self-care, therapy, game nights and the classroom.

In 2023, The Poet’s List launched its official podcast, which weaves poetry analysis and storytelling into intimate conversation. Later that year, the brand unveiled its virtual writing retreat; arguably its largest endeavor to date. The retreat – available in app form on iOS and Google Play – features official podcast episodes, WordPit prompts, chat forums, workshops, challenges and more.

Forecast

Looking ahead in 2024, The Poet’s List will be focused on rolling out more interviews; introducing affordable advertising options for poets and brands; and building out its “Resources” section.

“Our goal is always to ensure that, once you visit our site, you leave with more than you came for,” says Davis, “Whether it’s poetry-related news or simply the name of a poet you’d never heard of, we want you to leave with your hands full.”
