A Pontiac resident attending Eastern Michigan University teamed with classmates to earn third place in a national poetry slam competition.

Gabriel Green was part of the EMU team that beat 68 other schools, including Harvard and Ohio State.

“The experience was heightened by the amount of support we received from other Poetry Society members and the EMU family at large,” Green stated.

“We had a contingent of former students and members of the society there to support us in our run to the final state. The energy and passion that the Poetry Society brought to the event was very contagious, and we left a huge mark while on stage as well as our fellow competitors, who fed off our energy.”
