Full Title: Savannah Spoken Word Festival offers week’s worth of poetry slams, open mics and more
In conjunction with National Poetry Month, Savannah’s Spoken Word Festival is back in effect for its ninth stellar event.
Each year, this festival seems to get bigger and better and 2015 is no exception. It should be no secret by now that Savannah has a strong and vibrant spoken word scene, but if you still aren’t in the know, now is your chance to sample some of the best and brightest local talent, along with some other amazing spoken word artists from around the country.
Marquice L. Williams, co-director of Savannah’s own Spitfire Poetry Group, is also helping to spearhead the event. He says this year they’ve expanded some of their offerings and built on previous years’ events. The Savannah Spoken Word Festival started as a three-day event and has grown into a week’s worth of happenings for people of all ages and backgrounds.
“This whole week we have events for everybody,” Williams says. “This festival is really going to incorporate arts as a whole, so it’s about more than just spoken word poetry.”
