We’re about halfway through National Poetry Month and there’s still plenty of time left to join the fun. If you’re looking for ideas, go to poets.org and click on the link for National Poetry Month. You’ll find pages of ideas from founding organization the American Academy of Poets, including:
•Sign up for Poem-A-Day at poets.org/poetsorg/poem-day.
•Start a poetry reading group or attend a poetry reading. For local readings, check our calendar at dailypress.com/hrcalendar.
•Brush up on the various forms of poetry.
You can support the local poetry movement by joining the Poetry Society of Virginia (www.PoetryVirginia.org). The group, which offers events, contests and resources, also submits nominations to the governor for selection of Virginia’s poet laureate. A basic one-year membership is $35.
