Sally Young has spent most of her life with rhymes in her head.
The Little Rock, resident has taken her passion for prose and turned it into a lifelong hobby. Her hobby recently won her accolades from the Iowa Poetry Association, as Young captured first place in the group’s 2014 contest’s general adult category.
As a result of the win, Young’s poem “Vital Signs” is showcased in Lyrical Iowa 2014.
Young was born near Rapid City, S.D. She obtained her nursing degree from the University of South Dakota. She and her husband later traveled to West Africa for missionary work.
Young began writing poetry in grade school. Something about the genre drew her in over other types of prose.
