The iDiOM Theater, 1418 Cornwall Ave., is starting late-night events and one of them is a series of poetry and jazz slams.
At 10 p.m. on the last Friday of every month, Tobias Childs, a Dead Parrots Society alum who has performed at the Upfront Theater, will host the Jazz Jam and Poetry Slam, reviving a series started by Glenn Apollo Hergenhahn-Zhao more than a decade ago.
The triumphant return will include a live jazz band from Western Washington University, a featured poet each month, and a cash prize.
The first jam, on Friday, Jan. 30, features Seattle poet, playwright and graphic designer Tim Sanders, whose writing and designs have appeared in The Stranger, Henhouse magazine, ACT Theatre, Yes! Magazine, and 826 Seattle’s Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co. His works for stage have been produced in Seattle, Chicago and New York, and he was on the original crew for the original Jazz Jam and Poetry Slam with Hergenhahn-Zhao and others.
