‘Spoken word’ highlights upcoming Union County event (via Charlotte Observer)

Do you have a notebook full of poems you want someone hear? Or maybe a story that needs to be read out loud? A song in your head that wants an audience?

A whole new community of like-minded individuals is waiting for you in 2015, with help from the Union County Community Arts Council.

Barbara Faulk, executive director of the council, said beginning Jan. 8, “Speak Up Spoken Word Open Mic” will be 7-9 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the community room at the Union County Community Arts Council building, 120 N. Main St. in Monroe.

Hosted by Faye Fulton and Linda Goodman, the open mic welcomes storytellers, poets, comedians, singers, writers and musicians to fill a 10-minute slot at the microphone. Waxhaw artist Ken Halstead is the first featured speaker.
