Los Angeles resident IN-Q, short for IN-Question, started rapping at age 13. He was sure he’d get signed to a record label and become an internationally-known emcee. He began working toward his goal, but by the time he turned 19 things changed.

Instead of concerts, he began attending weekly open mics at Da Poetry Lounge at Greenway Court Theatre in Los Angeles. And now he’s performing his own poetry concert 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.

“I started putting up my rapping a cappella and people called it poetry and I didn’t correct them,” IN-Q said. “Over the years I kept doing that and one day I woke up and realized that I was as much a poet as I was a rapper. Then one day I woke up and realized that I was more of a poet than a rapper.”
